I am a transgender Kansan and this means that my wife and I will leave Kansas as soon as possible. What a terrible state to have been born in, I regret ever living any portion of my life here.

I’m so sorry to hear that. I really hope you’re able to find a better home somewhere new!

What is happening in Kansas is what will happen as a microcosm in all republican controlled states. It's radical incrementalism. This legislative session it's Kansas. Next session it will be many other states. Transgender people need to completely exit the Midwest and south. The situation is untenable.

We have to really fight to get our Democratic governor re-elected this year in Arizona. Otherwise, AZ will be next in the queue for extreme bills. The legislature has passed bills like this every year for the last 4 years and have been vetoed by Hobbs, and fortunately they do not have a veto-proof majority and are unlikely to ever have one. But the Republican candidate is a huge Trump-boot-licking MAGA freak and will give Texas, Florida and Kansas a run for their money on targeting us.

I’m sorry. I grew up in Missouri and feel the same way Once great states co-opted by Y’all-Queda

I'm so sorry. It's not your fault at all that Kansas is like this. Red state Americans deserve so much better than this white "Christian" nationalist bullshit.

Fuck I'm so sorry this has happened. The day I was moving from Nebraska was the day they were opening hearings about bathroom bans and healthcare liabilities/ restrictions. Even in my new blue state, I still feel ill at ease

…i’d advise to leave a country, me and my trans son moving to Ireland, we live in NYC, i really love my city and it was good to my trans kid, but this country has no future for him

Christina Elizabeth Cummings's avatar

Wishing you the best of luck getting gender affirming Healthcare in Ireland. I'd love to take over your NYC lease in the meantime!

serghiy's avatar

…my lease will be transferred to my son’s friend also trans, he used to live with us when his mother moved to Florida, he’s an awesome kid and i’m really glad to help him out, in terms of gender affirming healthcare in Ireland - it’s not his priority at the moment, he’s 21 and Ireland has a future, life is a process and direction you’re moving dictates a progress

…i’d rather live in a country with proud history standing up to empires then displaying subjects they conquer projecting their strength

I'll say this again- as a cishet woman I DON'T CARE if a trans person is in the bathroom. What I care about is this perverted pedophilic obsession of the far right that makes them think they can check peoples' genitals. When I was a kid, THEY are are ones who would have gone to jail!

serghiy's avatar

…you really shouldn’t say “i don’t care”

GhostoftheWhiteRose's avatar

Don't tell me what what I mean and don't tell me what to say

Christina Elizabeth Cummings's avatar

We're so grateful for your apathy. Just imagine how grateful we would be with your support??

GhostoftheWhiteRose's avatar

You misunderstood completely.

When I lived in MO/KS I DID a lot of actively fighting these kinds of bills and other B.S. Now I do it in MN, which is a much safer place for my trans daughter. I protest here now

I'm so sorry for trans folks in Kansas. This is beyond crazy and incredibly cruel. Hopefully the courts will come to the rescue here.

Such vicious bullshit

I'm curious how exactly revocation of existing birth certificates would work, legally. Typically that would only happen if there was suspected fraud? But if people changed it under processes that were legal at the time, it can't be considered fraud. I imagine people also have the opportunity to individually challenge that in court. Same for licenses? There are usually appeals processes even if you're found guilty of a DUI or have too many "points" on your license.

I know Republicans' playbook is to pass blatantly illegal/unconstitutional laws as court/SCOTUS bait and see what sticks. But the retroactive element seems unlikely to hold up.

We just want to be normalized thats f0cking it!!!!

KRS's avatar

Ok can someone please dm me a link to a reputable org fundraising to help our trans neighbors in Kansas get to safety?

Really worrying.

Solutions to the bathroom issue that I have seen are, in Canada anyway, that rest rooms are now individual, without stalls or such. Each room is spacious enough for one person, plus. They have everything anyone of either gender or whatever+ could want, and you’re in there by yourself and you lock the door. All the rest rooms are like that and there are no complaints.
