Horrific. Imagine denying kids cancer drugs or meds for genetic disorders. Now, apply that to trans kids - they will die. The suicide risk for trans kids is much higher than the background rate and if they can't access medicine, follow it to the logical conclusion.
If I could have stopped puberty, I would go back and do it in a heartbeat. People that do survive after the wrong puberty like me, end up with a life of pain. I wouldn't trade my choice to transition ever but it's really fucking hard later in life. Give these kids a chance please.
Great coverage of this issue, especially in light of these hospitals doing it quietly to avoid additional backlash. As a father of a kid in need of gender affirming care, I'm terrified our own local hospital will give in and leave us hanging.
Yeah, it's such a tough situation for everyone involved; I just wish more hospitals and providers would stand up to this instead of blindly complying. For what it's worth, I really hope your hospital doesn't capitulate...especially because your kid is an existing patient, I mean to just abandon you guys like that would be so messed up.
