A Kansas trans woman is being charged with driving with an invalid license after a police officer refused to believe the license the state is forcing her to carry was valid. She won’t be the last.
And that officer and/or their supervisor is a bigot and coward for not citing for the "invalid" license. Letting her off with a warning then drafting the citation is pathetic and I would want to go to court out of spite to have the judge put that on record. (Assuming the judge isn't garbage, too.)
Thank you for the great reporting. This is exactly what you and others have been warning about. It puts us all at risk. I hope her case gets resolved quickly.
I’m pretty sure that’s illegal on the part of the cop. He gave her a warning. So there’s zero reason for her to need to appear in court. But rather than just delivering a verbal warning, it should’ve been accompanied by a written warning, too. Whenever I’ve been let off with a warning for speeding, tail light out, etc. I believe they always give me a written statement to have on file!
And here is that circle back jerk that we all knew would happen. Even when you are compliant it’s not enough for these people. This is cruel and I keep telling cis people that they should be frightened also because the state basically said hey! We have the power at any time to take away anything from anyone wheather or not it’s constitutional or legal! EVERYONE should be worried here! The fact that we have “gender markers” in a drivers license is unnecessary to begin with IMO. It just goes to prove how “hung up” society and America in general wrap is on gender. For crying out loud we gave colors and clothing gender! This is rediculous!
I agree! The narcissists count on us not having the money to sue, but by God when we set our mind to it and decide we’ve had enough, we should be suing the hell out of them every day!

This is a feature, not a bug. They're trying to make it more difficult to exist in public while trans.

I really hope she sues! Should be fairly easy to prove harm here, and it seems like lawsuits are the best way to deal with these bullshit laws...
