Another Unconstitutional law passed by a bunch of transphobic assholes, the ACLU, is probably already filing briefs, this violates their medical privacy, their records are supposed to be between them and their doctors, im so sick of this 😪💔

Kunoichi's avatar

Transmisia not transphobia. This goes beyond fear.

Sharon's avatar

Agree…this is beyond ridiculous

Sharon's avatar

We are going to have to give up some of our privacy to retake our democracy.

Jenn C's avatar

Note to self. Stay the hell out of Tennessee.

Alice's avatar

I am a Tennesseean trans person. I cannot leave the state. I don't have the money. Fuck this so much. I just want to live.

Montana Black's avatar

Me too. I am here with you. 😢🫶❤️‍🔥 This is truly beyond bullshit.

Michaelashworthe's avatar

I once lived in Nashville with my gay partner in the 1990’s and we were never bothered, in fact there was a big network of gay/trans people. I moved back to the North in 2015 & I don’t like the cold of the fall and winter, but We have a wonderful support system and a great PRIDE ORGANIZATION!

Margarita Perez-Kaser's avatar

I’m so sorry that this is happening. I wish we could all wake up from this MAGA bullshit as if it were just a bad dream … the amount of hate this administration carries leaves me with no words. It’s not supposed to be this hard to exist.

Cheryl Beck-Ruff's avatar

I am so sorry. I live here now. This is horrific.

Dancin AimeeG's avatar

I am outraged on your behalf. What can those of us in other states do to support you?

Alice's avatar

To be honest, not much can be done without collective action. But here are some things you can do to help as an individual.

VOTE. Get these lunatics out of office. The fewer fascists in positions of power, the better. Midterm elections are happening all over the country this year.

Stand up for LGBT friends and speak out when someone talks negatively or mocks us.

Provide mutual aid. This can be something as small as donating to pro-LGBT causes, or as involved as housing trans individuals or helping trans people escape to sanctuary states/other countries.

Make no mistake, nobody is safe, trans or cis. They will come after all of us eventually. Let's stop them before it happens.

Dancin AimeeG's avatar

Thank you! I co-lead an Indivisible group. We just had a post card session today targeting our state lawmakers to codify election protections. We have provided mutual aid to different communities in the past, but haven’t yet connected to a local LGBTQ organization and will make it a point to seek that connection. In solidarity, Aimee

It would be something if people boycott Nashville and the entire state.

CSBC's avatar

Boycott country music!

Aleksandra Vaca's avatar

Maybe just the music from Tennessee?

Kunoichi's avatar

This just SCREAMS HIPPA violation. I hope they pass it so they can get their asses sued so hard.

Carol O'Neill's avatar

The problem with that is if it passes, trans folks will be persecuted by this law until it gets thrown out.

Larry Erickson's avatar

Which is why it would be good for opponents to very publicly note before the bill gets final passage that in the likely event of the bill being tossed there could be potential for legal consequences for those who cooperate.

Montana Black's avatar

Or I can make some moolah off of them, still sucks and I hope they burn for it, but I could honestly bare to have my pockets lined with some of their money. I've got myself and people around me here who need it.

Larry Erickson's avatar

True enough, but of course the idea is to prompt some folks to tell the lege that "Um, maybe this isn't such a good idea."

Montana Black's avatar

Absolutely, there are so many reasons why this is a terrible decision. They should hear the weight of all their oversights and inhumanities all day until they collapse. They certainly want us dead. Negotiating with them doesn't work, ego and insecurities, and I have seen enough bigotry to know that they'll try to fight us out no matter what, but if they know they'll be legally embarrassed and dripping dollar signs, fuming with a boner in their pants or something-- I think that's an apt reason not to do all that lol.

It's dangerous of course, and I am afraid, but also it's very lame and cowardly, plus they'd have to hear me bitch them out while wasting their time and money, which they already do anyways. Watch em face plant like dominoes while we study their collapse and protect each other from their madness.

Steve Connelly's avatar

The gov’t has access to HIIPA. Worthless law.

Jane Valerie's avatar

Once again the GOP is prioritizing unnecessary and cruel legislation against trans people.

There is zero question that any such public report will be used by bigots seeking to target trans people.

Cheryl Beck-Ruff's avatar

Nashvillian here. Equally as “fun”—five fat old white male Republicans want to pass a law that allows for the DEATH PENALTY for women who have abortions. Are you effing kidding me?

Carrie 🇨🇦's avatar

Time to relocate to another state

Cheryl Beck-Ruff's avatar

😭 Why do small minded Republicans have a lock on all of the warm weather states???

Carrie 🇨🇦's avatar

There's always California and New Mexico

Larry Erickson's avatar

I didn't get to the end your subhead before I was looking up HIPPA to confirm my understanding of it.

I'm certainly not known for any Pollyanna-ish tendencies, but I have to say that after spending some time at that, including your link to the discussion of exceptions, I am still mystified as to how these buffoons and bozos can think - for all their self-satisfied pretensions to the contrary - that this bill does not violate HIPPA and by passing it Tennessee will not be setting itself up for an embarrassing defeat in court.

Michael Taylor's avatar

This cruel, draconian, and needless bill is designed as a test case for the Supreme Court with the aim of codifying transphobia into law.

Larry Erickson's avatar

No argument there. But what I think will cripple it in court is that the whole impact on trans folks, desired by the bill's supporters or not, doesn't impact the claim that it violates federal law.

Jessica Johnson's avatar

Dude what!? This is a massive invasion of privacy! What the hell is Tennessee's government thinking!?

Eva E Shidle's avatar

They are thinking that MAGA simpletons will be able to find trans people and kill then. Oh, my, these SOBs are so "pro-life." Also they will make insurance totally unaffordable for trans people--more harassment. I am seething.

Jessica Johnson's avatar

Pro-life my ass, this is pro-murder!

NancyCBrettC's avatar

They aren’t…they’re too fuckin moronic to “think” anything…this goes against federal privacy laws. HIPAA, something the MORONS in the TN government obviously don’t have a CLUE about. This will be challenged in court and struck down. It’s blatantly against federal law.

jezzy's avatar

they're not stupid. they're just evil. trans genocide is the point.

NancyCBrettC's avatar

Oh they’re stupid…and evil AF, I agree. Stupidity is a requirement of hating anyone or wanting to harm anyone in any way, that you don’t know purely bc they’re living a life different from yours, have a different color of skin, or are from a different country, etc. Most people who society would deem intelligent have better things to think about or do than bully and scapegoat marginalized groups.

Jessica Johnson's avatar

Exactly! It's not only awful, it's illegal!

Micheal Scott's avatar

OMFG 😳🙄🙄🙄

Daughter of Danu's avatar

What is wrong with these inhumane people? This is like the Salem Witch Hunt.

Jessica Johnson's avatar

Exactly! Except it's with Trans folks instead of people accused of witchcraft.

Montana Black's avatar

Some of them accuse us of that as well lol

Montana Black's avatar

The really crazy ones do. I won't deny it tho... I do get a little witchy sometimes😈, but come on, that's so old school of them!

Jessica Johnson's avatar

No kidding, we got a couple in California who hate black cats because of witches.

This law is a HIPAA violation wrapped in another HIPAA violation wrapped in another HIPAA violation. And what exactly is the purpose?

Kathleen Keating's avatar

Vile. Leave trans people alone. They are just people like the rest of us!!

NancyCBrettC's avatar

Isn’t this against FEDERAL FUCKIN LAW?! Hello?? HIPAA VIOLATION THROUGH THE ROOF!! All trans folks in TN should be gearing up to sue the FUCK out of your dumbass state and make plans to move yourselves and family and as many friends and their tax dollars out as fast as you can!! FUCK the RepubliCUNTS in TN!

Clark Smith's avatar

Why can't people just let people be? This is why you elected a madman.
