Please, I want to use your site. But you don't put a key on your maps! What is the point of having a map with all these labels on it if you omit the key to them? What do these colors and patterns mean?
I've gotten a few people that ask that question, but the problem is, the website where I made the maps, Datawrapper, doesn't allow me to create a custom key. So it'd be like completely clunky and honestly hard to read. However, I wanted to make the colour-coding as specific as possible to reflect all the nuances in each state, and I can't have both. How it works is: the greener a state, the better the law, and the redder the state, the worse/more restrictive the law is. The patterns reflect that the law isn't enforced, because either it's just not enforced or it's blocked. You can hover over/click on each state and it'll tell you the law there.
I also have tables available for each policy area and state. Those tables also contain links to each law/policy and the litigation surrounding it, if any. That said, I will try to see if I can make like a separate, gradient graphic that can function as a sort-of key. Thanks for the feedback!

But Texas is grey
Becauss the bill hasn’t been signed by the governor yet. That is the map of current restrictions. I’ll update it when it passes.
