This is out of date. North Carolina just passed HB805 that eliminates self-ID, makes original birth certificates have to be appended to any modified one, tries to drive adult GAC providers out of business through malpractice, and more. NC should be red across the board.
It does do the appended birth certificates thing, but it doesn’t eliminate self-ID. A lot of states show a record of the amendment (usually just by crossing out the old gender marker and then writing in the new one) instead of giving a new one, so really it just brings NC in line with other, redder states. I should probably add the new vs. amended birth certificate thing though.
It really is shameful of NC to include that malpractise clause though. Thankfully, the 4th Appeals Court is friendly to us so it may be struck down.
Thanks. I disagree about self-ID. The beginning of the bill defines the terms "man" and "woman" with the 'biological' at-birth nonsense, and defines "gender identity" as having no legal standing in the state. While this hasn't been effectuated yet with DMV, etc., I am sure it will be.
I’m not sure if the DMV can actually enforce that though. NC birth certificates have the same requirement (certification of gender identity), which is enforced by court settlement. The worst that could happen with that is the DMV requiring an updated birth certificate, which is easy to obtain.
It does ban X gender marker though, which is a shame. I’ll update the article.
Amazing work, Aleksandra, the tentacles are spreading far and wide, fervently wishing the midterms weren't so far away, we need to be rid of these monsters, 🗳💙🇺🇸
Regrettably, Georgia has more on the books than this article let's on. We have a freshly enacted K-12+Higher Edu bathroom ban on the books.
Okay, I’ve updated it. The law only applies to K–12 schools and state-funded colleges when they’re HOSTING an athletic event, for some reason.
You’re right, I’ll add that in. Thank you for bringing it to my attention!
