I know. Although, when I was discussing it with my mother, she didn't seem to see what was wrong with it, and she even said, "At least [Sage] consented to be there." To which I responded, "Yeah, well, I CONSENTED to get my hair cut on Sunday, and did I want THAT?"
What still seems so tragic to me that is I can recall from a good number of years ago PSAs on TV (okay, maybe it was radio; the words are what I remember) telling children that if there were problems at home and they needed help, to tell an adult, including, I remember this specifically, "a trusted teacher."
Now, that's simply no longer true. If you're trans and home feels like a hostile environment, a teacher is someone you dare not trust. Not just because they might expose you to your parents but because they might have no choice in the matter, so you remain silent, feeling trapped and isolated and alone - and potentially suicidal.
Ignorance leads to fear (transphobia). Fear leads to hate (transmisia). Hate leads to inflicting suffering. And the infliction of suffering will be described as doing good - because the alternative is facing the reality of what it is being done and that is too much to bear.
I was one of many people who didnt understand how fragile the checks and balances system was. I knew he would suck, but I didnt realize how many would cave and help him suck. Its been a god damn real life civics lesson every time I turn on the news. And im sorry.
I would hope that the country watching would finally wake up and be like”this looks like a man obsessed”. Inflation is hurting everyone across the board, tariffs are effecting US not THEM, he’s waging a war of freedom of speech, ICE is out of control, and foreign policy is dead. Yet he keeps talking about Trans people. WAKE THE FUCK UP AMERICA
If he's hitting the trans talking points this hard, it only means one thing. He's scared. His people are hemorrhaging support in the mid terms. He said once that he doesnt care about trans issues at all. He tells other republicans to only bring it up right before elections. For an easy win. Hes running out of time and he has nothing left.
