The policy changes, which go into effect on October 13th, see Arizona and Virginia join Kansas as states where Democrats have needlessly opted to restrict Medicaid coverage of gender-affirming care.
I could be wrong about this but as far as I understand because Virginia's legislative regular 60 day session and special session ended for the year before the Trump administration announced the gender affirming cuts in August, Virginia was unable to pass legislation to fill in the specific Medicaid funding gap caused by the gender affirming cuts. A bill has already been filed for the 2027 session starting in January to use state funds to restore gender affirming coverage for Medicaid recipients and Virginia's AG is already suing the Trump administration over the cuts.
Additionally since the funding only tapers off after six months the actual cut off for funding is in April 2027 which should mean that gender affirming care in Virginia should be minimally impacted as long as they act on that quickly. Nevertheless until a law is actually singed on the matter DMAS is required to notify healthcare providers and Medicaid issuers, who are responsible for informing individuals, about the cuts.
That’s a fair take, but I will note that just because DMAS is only required to notify providers does not mean that the state can’t issue a statement about this. That is honestly most of my grievance here (with Virginia): there hasn’t been a single peep from state officials reassuring affected trans kids that they are working to restore this coverage. Nor has Spanberger urged the legislature to pass a bills addressing this. If I had seen either of these things, I would’ve reported on this VERY differently.
I hope the adults and parents of children will not take this lying down. Take it through the court systems if you can, or just self treat intelligently and responsibly. It is your Constitutional right and duty as loyal Citizens of The United States 🇺🇸🏳️⚧️
I guess this isn't totally surprising for Virginia. During her campaign, Spanberger demurred when asked about trans policy, saying simply that she would follow the law. I think it's really up to the General Assembly on this one, and there are several really good lawmakers that are likely to lead the charge. I can imagine some sort of compromise position that avoids touching the high-voltage third rail - perhaps Medicaid funding for everything EXCEPT surgeries on trans minors. That would avoid the "sex change surgery using your taxpayer money" accusations and would be minimally limiting.
Not surprising. The long term goal is to get families to move to a few certain states. Then when a dictator wins in 2032 they will be easier to round up.

Finally now they won’t be doing irreversible surgeries on infants 🤪 cause that’s a thing. They also eat dogs 🐕
Damn that bus is heavy.
Centrist corporate & foreign owned Dems will stab you in the back everytime.
Why do you think they’re attacking progressive candidates all over the country?
Why are they withholding funding for @Angie Nixon and @Charles Booker and @Justin J. Pearson?
We have to stop trusting the lies of establishment bought Dems and trust the evidence of our own eyes and what they actually DO vs what they say.
Wimps
Shame
