Thank you for this think piece. It's poignant and necessary though it fills me with dread. I didn't think I would be here 18 months after beginning my medical transition ready to give everything I have to stop the attack on trans rights. But, so it goes. Let's keep fighting and pushing our supposed allies to keep having our backs.
I agree—I usually don't write negatively about things, but I thought this needed to be said. It's sad to even have to think about it, but that's unfortunately our reality right now. Honestly, when I started hormones a little over a year ago, I didn't think I'd be here either. I guess this is just the way things go sometimes. Still, I'm glad others are fighting! It really is a group effort.
I see you and I appreciate that you shared this deeply personal info. Your writing has a maturity and poise that is essential in this type of journalism. Editorial has it's place but at the moment, there is a major dearth of information on even basic news about trans rights and culture. So I appreciate the news you provide very much!
So tired of spineless cowards bending over and throwing everyone under a bus for...nothing. They got NOTHING out of this. I'm on SNAP and hurting there and still I feel they threw us all away here. You think they won't play the same trick next time? Bending now over it shows that it WORKS, so, yeah, they will. Probably up the ante, too. That's how they work. ALWAYS ask for more, always seek more harm. And...yes, always screw the queers. Because we're useful scapegoats.
They cannot prevent transgender inmates from receiving HRT as it is a District Court order (Hicklin v. Precynthe) and has been upheld by District Courts all across the country.
I'm disappointed in the Senate Dems. Fingers crossed the midterm elections result in more progressive Dems in Congress.

Yes I know, but a Congressional action would require a separate order, as well as strengthen the position of the Trump administration.
